Meet our students
Hannah May, MSc Psychology Conversion
Hannah May is now considering taking her teaching career in a new direction after studying the MSc Psychology Conversion course at UHI Inverness.
Hannah from Elgin said: “I have been a primary school teacher and outdoor nursery manager since completing my BA Hons in Primary Education in 2004. With a particular interest in behaviour and positive management techniques, I enrolled in the MSc Psychology course to inform my classroom practise.
“I completed the course remotely and through the pandemic years and so have never actually been to UHI Inverness, However despite this, one of the highlights has been the close alliances made with fellow students through the use of social media and other communication platforms and the support given by fellow students as we studied together. I am still teaching, however completing the course has opened my eyes to the possibility of further study and professional development in the field of psychology and potentially moving towards a child trauma counselling role in the future.”
Amber Geddes, BSc (Hons) Psychology
Amber Geddes missed a few years of high school due to illness and thought she would never be accepted onto a university course. However, she secured an online place at UHI Inverness through widening access and is celebrating achieving a BSc (Hons) Psychology degree.
Amber (22) from Inverness is now studying a Developmental Psychology Masters at the University of Dundee and intends to start a research-based PhD next year.
“UHI Inverness gave me an opportunity that I wouldn’t have otherwise had,” she said.
“I really appreciate the skills that online study taught me, and the degree modules gave a really diverse look into the possible specialisations that one can go into. Not having the same secondary education as my peers was a big barrier for my higher education. But the opportunity that UHI Inverness gave me to complete my Bachelors in Psychology has opened up a lot of opportunities.”
